A journey through African Spirituality
African Spirituality, what does that mean to me? As a young African woman, navigating through life in these modern times, what does it mean to be African and Spiritual?
Does it mean going to church every Sunday? Or maybe delving deep into emsamo (Ancestral plane) or simply just praying, by myself.
Africa in its diverse self, caters to an array of cultures, beliefs and spiritual practices. My personal project aims to take a step into some of these religions and spiritual practices to form a better understanding of how and why it all works as it does. Further seeking information about certain religious and spiritual practices may unite us. Knowing that in all our differences, we all seeking one God, Modimo le Badimo, Higher Power, Unlocking the secretes and powers of the divine Universe
Aluta Comtinua "Illwa Ntomboo"
This project follows a group of women wo represent a larger group of marginalized women part of the larger diaspora. Through spending time with each of the women, I got to understand them, their challenges, their background, hopes and dreams. These women go through a great deal on a daily basis; from bad weather, thieves stealing their stock, harassments from men, Xenophobic verbal harassments, the metro police confiscating their belongings because they are selling on the streets. Theses are just some of the hardships they endure daily.
Yet they come back each and every day, they return to make means to provide for their families. and this is the resilience, courage, strength and beauty that I want to celebrate through these photographs. At the end of the day, these women raise the leaders, innovators and artists of tomorrow.
Business During Covid-19
My project narrows the focus to small business and how they are affected by covid-19. it is set in the township of Middelburg, Mhluzi in Mpumalanga and I explore different small businesses and try to understand how they are operating and the challenges they face during these times. I will also highlight their needs and how they can better be assisted.
Moreover, this is to show appreciation to small businesses for continuing to provide basic goods and services during this pandemic.
